EVALUATION SCHEME
Evaluation and assessment is distributed for the purposes of grading as follows:
Accordingly, a student’s performance will be evaluated based upon the following criterion:

Participation (5%): The quality of class participation is an important factor in this course and is discussed in more detail in the Class Participation section above. Also note the discussion in the Attendance section above relating to the fact that a student’s attendance is a factor in the analysis of this segment of the final grade.

Problem sets and quizzes (15%): There will be 6 problem sets and quizzes distributed during the semester (one for each chapter). Problem sets can be a quiz in classroom or homework. All homework assignments should be submitted prior to the due date. No late homework will be accepted. Solutions to the problem sets will be posted later. Group discussion of homework problems is allowed but each student must prepare his/her own solution to each problem set. A copy of others’ solution is considered as a cheating behavior.

Mid-Term Examination (30%): This exam is designed to test your knowledge and understanding of the issues in your reading and issues discussed in the classroom. It will comprise some combination of multiple-choice questions as well as brief exercises.

Final Examination (50%): The final exam is designed to test your comprehensive knowledge gained during the entire course, but will emphasize substantive areas covered following the midterm. will consist of conceptual and problem solving questions. It is expected that it will comprise some combination of multiple-choice questions as well as brief exercises. This exam will take place as scheduled by TBS for the final exam.
All exams will be closed book and closed notes. You can bring calculators to the quiz but you cannot use your laptop or cell phone.
